Flower Skull Mask

Welcome to Day 27 of 31 Days of Halloween Crafts! Today we’re making skull masks adorned with flowers.

Materials:

- paper mask

- dried flowers

- sheer black fabric scraps

- hot glue

- paint

To start, we’re going to make our mask look more skull-like by carving out the jawline and enlarging the eye holes.

Before you glue on the flowers, paint a base of color down. I’m painting in hints of the highlights and shadows, but keeping it loose and painterly. Don’t get overly precious about this part as most of it will be covered by the flowers.

Once the mask is painted, cover the eye holes by gluing a scrap of fabric on the back of the mask. They should look dark, but you should still be able to see through them.

Now you can begin to glue on the dried florals. Clip any large pieces into smaller sections.

I find it easier to start with broader pieces and fill in clusters of the same flower.

Once you have a base down, you can begin to layer contrasting textures. Use bulkier florals to help sculpt the shape of the skull.

Here I’m using individual leaves for the teeth. When everything is looking full, you can add little details with the smallest pieces.

When you’ve got a good mix of color and texture, your mask is complete.
