Clay Jack-O-Lantern

Welcome to Day 11 of 31 Days of Halloween! Today we are making a definitely not haunted jack-o-lantern out of air dry clay.

Materials:

- air dry clay

- acrylic paint

- fillable glass ornament

- string or ribbon

- fake candle

To start, use Mod Podge to glue a piece of tissue paper to the ornament. Use a big enough piece to cover where you imagine the eyes and mouth going.

Let this dry and begin massaging your clay to get it pliable. This helps to prevent cracks. Make a few ropes of clay to map out where the eyes, nose, and mouth will go.

Begin to fill in the rest of the pumpkin. Have some water close by so you can smooth out the clay as you go and use it to adhere different pieces together.

To give this absolutely not haunted lantern a more pumpkin feel, I’m using a sculpting tool to make lines.

When you’re happy with it, leave it to dry for a day or two.

Paint your pumpkin in whatever colors you like. I like using multiple colors at once while the acrylic paint is still wet to create a shaded effect.

If you like, paint right onto the tissue paper areas for a vintage look.

Tie a ribbon or string through the top and insert a fake candle in the back to complete your definitely not haunted lantern.
